"I joined Talia in 2018 through the Uplift Program , then called Young Women Leadership Development Program. I was at that time confused, bored and helpless from being at home all the time, being a mom and wife (I don't regret any of those roles, I just needed more). Being an extrovert, I needed something to remind me of who I was as a person outside of the home. I found Talia to be that place where I could share my experience and journey of self discovery without being judged, looked down upon or prejudice. At first I felt a little intimidated because it was just the two of us who were married and mothers. But at Talia it made no difference, I found a family and I found sisters who saw me as a person beyond all that. I moved from that uncertainty and confusion of who I was and where I wanted to go to discovering that I really had a passion for family therapy and issues that revolved around children, women and the home, I decided that no matter how long it took, I would pursue Family Therapy. Even now after finishing the Uplift Program, I am still very much a member of the Talia family at heart, having shared their vision. I learnt to run my own race without competing with the woman next to me. I learnt to live life and laugh through the good and bad. I have had opportunities, battles and experiences both good and bad but Talia has been my home where I can run to and have never felt alone since then. When an opportunity to further my studies unexpectedly came knocking at my door through the Southern and Eastern African Region for Women's Law this year, I grabbed it with both hands! I remembered my lessons at Talia: staying positive, prepared and ready to upgrade and uplift myself as a person regardless of barriers or obstacles I face. Motherhood hasn't stopped me, am now a mom of two, studying Masters in Women's Socio-legal Studies (after graduating for my undergraduate degree in 2015) and no matter how hard or challenging it can get, it's worth it! I look to the future with hope and anticipation that more doors will open and personal grown is a certainty. The forces for me are greater than the forces against me. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength! All women are equal, if not better, being authentic to oneself gives you leverage... I could write a book but I am eternally grateful for having found such an amazing family of sisters with whom I have built strong friendships and networks!!"
